Partnership of Gota de Leche and Quota Int’l Cebu Strengthens Disaster Relief

quotaIn strengthening the post-disaster recovery efforts in of Cebu-based typhoon Yolanda survivors, La Protection de la Infancia, Inc. (known for over a century as Gota de Leche) has partnered with Quota International of Cebu for a relief and nutrition support program.

At a signing ceremony held at the Casino Filipino of Cebu on Monday, 11 August 2014, Cebu-born Architect Augusto F. Villalon, president of Gota de Leche, and Quota International of Cebu president Niema G. Fuentes, formalized their organizational partnership.

In the MOA, joint and individual responsibilities were covered.  Gota de Leche will channel donations of food, powdered milk and nutrition support supplies for malnourished children and indigent families through Quota International of Cebu, while the Cebu-based women’s NGO dovetails this with its own long-term projects in the Queen City for children and PWDs.

In the wake of the typhoon’s destruction and inspired by its supporters abroad, the 108-year old Filipino charity Gota de Leche formulated a Post-disaster Relief and Nutrition Support Outreach Program that responded to the needs of the target beneficiaries. The program had been applauded the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and had received donations from Filipinos based in the United States.

Quota International of Cebu is known for its efforts improving the health and education of disadvantaged women and children, as well as lending a hand in the ongoing outreach programs that assist the survivors especially in Northern Cebu and Bantayan Island. Quota International of Cebu will identify the children who need nutrition support and distribute the donations in kind and carry out the documented monitoring processes, thereby highlighting the development of the target beneficiaries.

This initiative is envisioned to promote future joint efforts among existing and accredited NGOs all over the country.  It also underscores for the public that legitimate charities and NGOs have provided the backbone of social welfare citizen-led activities in our country for over 100 years.
